
Jason Rittenberg

Jason Rittenberg is a nationally recognized expert in regional economic development strategy, innovation ecosystems, and federal policy. As Principal of Excel Regional Solutions LLC, Jason leads efforts to help regions craft data-driven, tailored strategies that drive economic growth, fiscal sustainability, and stakeholder engagement. His work is grounded in rigorous research, peer benchmarking, and a deep understanding of the political and funding landscapes that shape regional development.
With nearly two decades of experience, Jason has advised state governments, regional coalitions, federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Past projects include analyzing opportunities for a regional governance model in Greater Philadelphia, facilitating strategic communications for U.S. EDA-designated Tech Hubs, creating a curriculum for industry cluster development, designing a microfinance program for Commerce Rhode Island, assessing Business Oregon’s lending programs, benchmarking tech economies for Innovate Ohio, and helping the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation identify new opportunities for tech entrepreneurship grantmaking.
Formerly, Jason was vice president at SSTI, where he directed a $3.5 million federal initiative to build a community of practice around tech-based economic development and managed the Innovation Advocacy Coalition to strengthen federal policy. He also was director of research and advisory services at the Council of Development Finance Agencies and conducted workforce program reporting for the State of Ohio.
An excellent communicator, Jason has presented and facilitated sessions for multiple federal and state agencies, trade associations, and other organizations. His published work includes News on the Internet: Information and Citizenship in the 21st Century, as well as numerous articles and reports for an array of audiences.
Jason has an MA from the University of Illinois and a BS from Ohio University, both with a focus on political communication.
